Obituary

Betty Lou Thomas Allen El was called from her earthly life on Sunday, January 26, 2020. She was born on December 26, 1940 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Augustus James "A.J." and Rosie Lee Thomas. She was the oldest of their three children. She grew up in Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She was a valedictorian graduate of Townsend Park High, class of 1958.

Betty was married at an early age to Mr. J.C. Johnson (divorced). While residing in Chicago, IL, she met and married Mr. Robert Garrett, who preceded her in death. In their union, they had one child. Later after moving to Pine Bluff, she met and married Mr. Lewis Allen, who also preceded her in death.

Betty was so gifted and was a lady of many talents. She had a career in the medical field as a medical nurse in Chicago, Illinois and in Little Rock, Arkansas. She also served for many years as a medical secretary for Dr. Alonzo Williams of Little Rock. She had a strong love for music and loved playing the piano. She was a seamstress and an ordained minister who also taught self improvement classes.

She leaves to cherish her memories to her son, Robert H. Garrett (Melissa) of Alexander, Arkansas; two brothers, A.J. Thomas, Jr. of Pine Bluff, Arkansas and Freddy H. Thomas (Faye) of Maumelle, Arkansas; and one sister, Verta Thomas Powell Ali of Macomb Township, Michigan. She leaves five grandchildren; Robbia (Steve), Tyia, Tori, Christopher and Evan.  She also leaves nieces, nephews, a host of grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
