Carolyn Kaye Shackelford, 69, of Hot Springs, died Thursday, December 27, 2018.  She was born September 21, 1949, in Hot Springs to O.D. and Jewel (Ford) Ratliff.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Kenneth G. Shackelford.

Carolyn retired in 2009 from the legal department at St. Joseph's Regional Health Center. She had a long career in the legal industry in Hot Springs, working with numerous attorneys and judges throughout the years. She was an avid musician, playing numerous instruments and singing in several gospel quartets and bands throughout the region. She also produced and performed on several gospel albums. She was a long-time member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, serving as organist for local order for many years. She was a member of St. Mary of the Springs Catholic Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Couch of Hot Springs; a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Elizabeth Shackelford of Little Rock; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Mary Shackelford of San Antonio, Tex.; a brother, Larry Ratliff of Hot Springs; Two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, JoAnn Newkirk Shaw, and Sue and Don Cunningham of Hot Springs; 10 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at St. Mary of the Springs Catholic Church in Hot Springs. Rosary will follow.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019, at St. Mary of the Springs Catholic Church in Hot Springs.

Honorary pallbearers are: David Ratliff, Wilburn Castleberry, Joe Wallace, Darin Murry, Andrew Murry, Rickey Ragsdale, Travis Pierce, David Nabors, Rick Heitman, Nathan Kovaleski, Matthew Tyler, and Jeremy Maddox.

Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Schieber/Heitman/Shackelford Family Endowed Scholarship at Benedictine College, 1020 N. Second St., Atchison, Kan., 66002.  Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Cremation Services of Arkansas (501)313-5431.
