Obituary

"The time has come the Walrus said to talk of many things:  Of ships, and shoes, and sealing wax, and cabbages and Kings."  This O'Henry phrase perfectly personifies the man known as Edgar Stuart ("Skip") Estes III who died on October 18, 2018, at the age of 78, at Little Rock, AR.
Skip was born to Edgar Stuart Estes, II and Ethland Dowd Estes at Helena, AR on December 19, 1939.  After brief stops in California and Fort Smith, he finally arrived in Little Rock at the age of 8.  From an early age, Skip developed a life-long love of reading, learning, and creative thinking.  Forever curious about all things but especially about people, places, and ideas, he was a man who loved to exchange thoughts, to debate the impossible, and to encourage everyone on their journey through life.  He had the gift of always knowing the right thing to say and do and found humor in most everything.  In addition to his love of reading, he enjoyed playing tennis, golf, bridge, travelling, carpentry, dining out, and his pop geography quizzes.  Skip always was considerate and a consummate gentleman (though his golfing partners might disagree).
After graduating from Little Rock Central High School in 1957, Skip later went on to graduate from Little Rock University (now UALR) in 1968, with a BS in Accounting and achieved his Certified Public Accountant designation.  In 1971 he graduated from the University of Wisconsin masters program in Banking Administration.  In addition, before and during his college years, he served in the Army Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Col. in 1966.
Never afraid of an opportunity, Skip had several careers over his lifetime, beginning first in banking with First National Bank, after which he moved on to serve as CFO for real estate companies in the 1980's, and later in corporate acquisitions for the electrical industry.  In July 1991, he became the Corporate Controller and Treasurer of Mountaire Corporation and worked there until his retirement on December 31, 2004.  Wishing to stay active, he continued to work as a financial consultant with the poultry and egg industries for the next 6 years.
He leaves wonderful memories to his wife of 20 years, Alice (Pittman) Estes, his sons Michael S. Estes (Dana), and Paul Perroni, his daughters Nancy Lawson (Bobby), Marie Estes, Stacia Perroni, and Pamela Groves (Todd), his 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Skip was a great man to a great many people, all of whom will miss his laughter, great wit, kindness, and creative ideas.
Though his stay was short with Home Hospice Health Center, the family wishes to thank the personnel there for all their help and support.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church Columbarium or to St. Francis House in Little Rock.
Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1000 North Mississippi Ave in Little Rock.  Cremation services are under the direction of Cremation Services of Arkansas (501)313-5431.
