IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frances
Wong
July 21, 1925 – February 29, 2020
Mrs. Frances Wong, Wong Cheng Kai Chi, was a faithful servant to the Lord Jesus Christ, a loving sister, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was born on July 21, 1925 and went to be with the Lord on February 29, 2020.
Frances Wong was born in Canton, China to Cheng Chung Mo and Leung Qui Fun. She has two younger brothers. She was married to Rev. Dr. Paul Wong (Yat-Keung) and together have 4 children: Frances (Fai-Ling), Paul (Yun Bor), Stephanie (Ka-Ling), and Luke (Yun Lut). Frances is married to Victor Suen and together they have 3 children: Rebecca, Josephine, and Christopher. Paul is married to Francis Beacham and together they have 3 children: Elizabeth, Timothy and Rachel; and Rachel is married to Kyle Neeley. Stephanie is married to Carvin Chen and together they have 2 children: Cameron and Shaelyn.
We all know Frances as Kai Chi, but her parents originally named her as Hawk Ming. Her father renamed her to Kai Chi after her brothers were born so her name sounds similar to her brothers. She moved with her family to Macau in 1938. She accepted the Lord and was baptized in Macau Baptist Church in 1941. She graduated high school from Santa Rosa School in 1944 and began teaching music at Choi Go School. She became an elementary teacher in 1948 at Pui Ching School.
Frances met Paul at Macau Baptist Church. Frances had accepted the Lord earlier than Paul. They became closer friends when they served together in Sunday School and choir. Because they both lived in the same direction from church, after choir practice each week, Paul would walk her home before he walked on home. Frances dedicated her life to serve the Lord before Paul. She moved to Hong Kong to begin seminary in 1953 and they married in 1956, 2 years before she completed seminary. She graduated from Hong Kong Baptist Theological Seminary with the Bachelor of Religious Education degree in 1958.
While Rev. Dr. Wong was pastor of Hong Kong Baptist Church, Frances served through music and women's ministry at the church. She attended Asia Baptist Women Conference at the Philippines in 1963 and the Baptist World Alliance congress at Tokyo, Japan in 1969. She visited Louisville, KY in 1974 and was awarded the P.H.T. [Putting Hubby Through] certificate, as Rev. Dr. Wong received his Ph.D. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. She continued to support Dr. Wong while he served as the pastor of the First Chinese Baptist Church in Memphis, TN, and as he led the formation and growth of the Chinese Baptist Fellowship of US and Canada.
In so many ways—sharp mind, good memory, teaching, singing, piano, cooking, flower decoration, Chinese medicine to name a few, she was the perfect help mate and companion to Paul and the work of the Lord. For so many periods of time, she pulled double duties to support his ministry and study requirements.
Upon retirement, Paul and Frances relocated to Fremont, CA in 1994. Paul went to be with the Lord in 2004, so Frances moved into a retirement community in Milpitas, CA, where she led a monthly fellowship at her complex to reach out to the Chinese residents.
Frances came to Little Rock in June 2018 to visit Paul and Francis. Due to health challenges, she was unable to return to California. Frances attended Immanuel Chinese Baptist Church faithfully until she went to be with the Lord.
Frances had been a blessing to her family and many brothers and sisters in Christ. As each of us reflects on the impact she had made in our lives, let's give thanks to the Lord for allowing us to share the time we had with her, and give all the glory and honor to the Lord.
A memorial service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Immanuel Baptist Church Chapel 501 N. Shackleford Road Little Rock. The family ask in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Chinese Baptist Fellowship of US and Canada P.O. Box 1393 Monterey Park, California 91754 in her memory. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Cremation Services of Arkansas (501)313-5431.
