Obituary

Helen Louise Hart Dixson, age 86, of Mabelvale, AR, passed away October 25, 2023 and is now with her Lord.  She was born on July 29, 1937, in Mabelvale AR to John and Peral Hart.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Orvil Thomas (Tom) Dixson; parents; brother, John Hart; sisters, Marie Roberson, and Glady Meade.

Helen is survived by her brother, Lloyd Hart; sister, Mildred Ishmael; two children, James (Cheryl) Dixson of Mabelvale and Mark (Dena) Dixson of Benton; two grandchildren, Rachel Harrison and J Dixson; two great grandchildren, David and Alaina Harrison; as well as several nieces and nephews and friends. We must mention that Helen loved her dogs (Rose, Lily, and little momma).   They brought her comfort and constant companionship during her later years.   Helen was a wonderful wife and mother and served the church and community in many ways during her life.

She grew up a country girl learning the value of family, community, love, and hard work.  She graduated High School at Mabelvale High School and attended college at Ouachita Baptist University and the University of Arkansas.   She met Tom while on a missionary trip to the rural North East Arkansas delta region.  It wasn't long before a country boy and girl fell in love and started their life together.  Helen worked most of her career as a school teacher teaching kindergarten, first, and second grade children.  She called every one of her students her babies and loved them just like her own children.

Helen was a lifelong member of Life Line Baptist Church.   Helen was dedicated to Christ and taught several Sunday school classes and worked with the homebound ministry for years.   Helen and her close friends Thelma Hogan and Lyla McGhee worked and played together and were always spreading the word of the gospels and seeking to help people with needs.   She and others would visit the homebound almost weekly taking them special treats, helping with chores, and enjoying fellowship about Jesus.   Helen loved art and music and was a gifted painter and pianist.  She was also an avid quilter for years and made many beautiful quilts.   She loved to travel and worked with Campers on Mission where she volunteered to help those in need.  She enjoyed genealogy and traveled all over the US with Tom doing family research.   Helen was known for her resolve and a person who didn't give up easily.  A phase that her son used to describe her was:  She was a "Tough Old Bird".   She positively influenced many people during her life and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.  What she would most want to be remembered by is that she loved GOD and spread the teachings of Jesus.

A Memorial service will be held at Life Line Baptist church in Little Rock Arkansas on November 5th at 4 PM.    Instead of sending flowers, please donate your time to help those in need or donate to your favorite charity.  Cremation arrangements are unde the direction of Cremation Services of Arkansas (501)313-5431.
