Herman E. Sanders, Jr., 76, died Monday, May 18, 2020, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was predeceased by his parents, H. E. Sanders and Clyde Josephine Sanders Johnson, and his stepfather O.L. Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rebecca Paulk Sanders; his son and family, Ben and Alison Sanders; grandsons, Evan and Miles Sanders, of El Cerrito, California.
Herman was born in Camden, Arkansas on June 17, 1943. He grew up in Bearden and moved to Little Rock at age 5, when his widowed mother married O.L. Johnson.
Herman attended Little Rock schools, but graduated form North Little Rock High School in 1961. He attended the University of Arkansas and graduated from Arkansas Tech College (now ATU) in 1965. After graduation, he joined the Air Force and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
In 1967, he went to work for the State of Arkansas at Employment Security Division (DWS). In 2009, he retired after 42 years of service. In 1970 Herman received a Master of Science degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from the U of A Graduate Institute of Technology. He taught Statistics, Calculus and Algebra various colleges in the state as an adjunct professor.
He had various hobbies, including target shooting and flying planes and gliders. For several years, he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol.
A memorial service is planned for some time in the summer, at Community Christian Church in Maumelle, Arkansas. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Cremation Services of Arkansas (501)313-5431 www.cremationservicesofarkansas.com
