James Chester Scarlett, 86, passed away June 9, 2022 following a long illness. He was born June 30, 1935, in Slate Springs, MS in Calhoun County, the oldest son of Orman and Omaree H. Scarlett. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Lynn S. Young; an infant sister; his granddaughter, Erica Lewis; and brother-in-law, Charles Hoover.

Jim spent his working career as a farm implement salesman and spent his spare time fishing. Formerly of Baton Rouge, he retired to the Caddo River area of Glenwood. With his first wife, Virginia Davidson Scarlett Spain, he had three children who survive him, Michael A. (Karen) Scarlett of Glenwood, Jimi Ann (Graham Hosking) Scarlett of Murfreesboro, and Pamela S. (Homer) Dupuy of Pass Christian, Mississippi; his sisters, Martha Elizabeth S. Hoover of Hernando, Mississippi and Juanita S. (Jimmy) Tutor of Pontotoc, Mississippi; a brother, George Thomas (Susie) Scarlett of Florence, Alabama; brother-in-law, Abner Clay Young of Como, Mississippi; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
