Ludy Amanda
Langley Balmat
March 10, 1944 – July 20, 2022
Our dearest Ludy Amanda Langley Balmat, of Maumelle, Arkansas, passed away July 20, 2022 at the age of 78. Ludy is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, George Balmat, sons Glen Balmat of Maumelle, and Terry (Michelle) Balmat of Little Rock, AR., brother William C. "Bill" (Cathy) Langley of Camden, AR., granddaughter Madison Amanda Balmat of Prague, Czech Republic, and step grandchildren Allie York and Blaine York of Conway, AR., and Carson York of Little Rock. She is also survived by numerous friends, who together shared a sisterhood. She is preceded in death by her mother and step father Edina and Eddie Rhinehart.
Ludy was born in Camden, Ar on March 10, 1944 where she grew up and attended Steven's High School. After graduating she moved to Little Rock where she met her lifelong partner George. The two married on February 15, 1969 . While residing in Little Rock, they raised their two sons. Later, she would go on to graduate from the University of Central Arkansas with a Bachelor's degree in Education. To Ludy's delight, she was blessed with a beautiful granddaughter, Madison. Madison was the light of her life. Some might say her greatest accomplishment was being her beloved Nina. She adored Madison and was a constant fixture in her life. She was honored to receive three step grandchildren Allie, Blaine, and Carson. Nina always made sure everyone knew that she loved them as well.
Throughout the years she enjoyed traveling with her family and friends. Some of her fondest memories were the beach vacations that she took with her husband, sons, and granddaughter. George and Ludy enjoyed countless cruises together where she was able to soak in the scenery and shop for jewelry or other fun trinkets. Her face would light up with excitement when she spoke about the trips she would plan with her friends. She showed extreme enthusiasm when speaking about the adventures she shared with both her friends and family.
Ludy was recognized as an award winning quilter. She was extremely creative and had an extraordinary imagination that easily contributed to her talent. She was a member of a multitude of quilting organizations such as Quest Quilters Guild, First Tuesday Quilting Group, and Conway Quilters. Her "African Animal" quilt was displayed in the Historical Arkansas Museum located in Little Rock. Her "Why Not" quilt had the privilege of being recognized at the International Quilting Festival and in the book, 500 Traditional Quilts. It was displayed in different museums across the United States before being handed back to Ludy. One of her biggest highlights was traveling to the different quilting conventions with her friends and fellow quilters.
Ludy was known for being true to herself. She lived her life the way she wanted to live it and she loved her family and friends fiercely. Her smile and laugh would brighten any room. She enjoyed having a glass of wine or a good margarita when surrounded by those she held dear. She was a loyal and loving person who wanted nothing more than to enjoy life. She had a unique way of always making you feel important. She greeted you with a happy smile, a loud hello, and a huge hug. Our lovely Ludy was truly one of a kind.
There will be a small graveside ceremony for family and close friends at Riverwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Maumelle, Ar at 9:00 am Friday July 29, 2022. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Cremation Services of Arkansas (501)313-5431.
