IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mardell Phillips
Good
March 2, 1932 – April 4, 2025
Mardell Phillips Good (93) passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born March 2, 1932 in Smiths Township, Tulip, Arkansas and was the youngest and last surviving child of Homer Hodge Phillips Sr and Isla Garmany Smith Phillips. She graduated from Little Rock Central High in 1950. After completing her x-ray technician degree at UAMS, she began her career in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. There she met and married her husband of 57 years, Jack Good. They raised three children: Kathleen Good Ederle, John Wilson Good Jr, and Stephen Sidney Good. Mardell hosted the family Thanksgiving feast for over 45 years in Pine Bluff and continued the tradition when she moved to Little Rock. She was a passionate knitter, having a lifetime of fun making sweaters for her children and granddaughters, prayer shawls, children's hats, felted purses, slippers, and every imaginable configuration of a scarf. She loved buying fine yarn and giving her completed projects to family and friends. In her later years, she enjoyed watching and feeding the birds from her treetop deck and following the moon, eclipses, planet alignment, and stars. She loved seeing the SpaceX satellite fly through the sky at the beach on Kiawah. Mardell was the last surviving of the "magnificent seven" that lived to adulthood. She was our matriarch for 5 1/2 years after her sisters died. She was preceded in her death by her husband, Jack Good; her siblings, Phil, Homer Hodge, Jr, Billy, James, and Van Troy Phillips; sisters, Catherine Sparks, Bennie Jean Smart Ungerman, and Baby Sister.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Kathleen Good Ederle and son-in-law Walter of Little Rock, John Wilson Good Jr of Little Rock, and Stephen Sidney Good of Bozeman, Montana, granddaughters: Dr. Ashley Ederle and husband Dr. Shawhin Kadivar Shahriari of Gainesville, Florida, and Dr. Amanda Ederle and husband Dr. Matthew Harrison of Johns Island, South Carolina. Mardell was a lifelong Methodist beginning at Hunter 's Chapel in Dallas County Arkansas, Hunter Memorial in Little Rock, Lakeside UMC in Pine Bluff, and Pulaski Heights UMC inLittle Rock.
The family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Kumpuris, Dr. Kevin Heifner, and the dedicated team of providers at Fresenius Kidney Care for their support and compassionate care. Granny would like to thank her son-in-law, Walter for his love and support. She would like to thank her devoted daughter, Kathleen, whom was the light of her life. And lastly, she was so proud of her granddaughters and loved them so very much. The memorial service will be held in June and updated on this website at a later date.
