Obituary

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mark Richardson, who departed this life on April 11, 2025, at the age of 62, following complications from heart surgery. He fought bravely and tenaciously and left this world peacefully, surrounded by those who loved him most.

Mark dedicated his professional life to logistics, concluding his career at Morris and Dixon where he delivered vital pharmaceuticals to hospitals throughout the state. He worked tirelessly to support his family, approaching each day with dedication and a singular purpose.

A devoted family man, Mark was faithfully married to his beloved wife, Peggy, for 37 years. He loved her passionately and completely until his final day. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising his stepson Nick Winter and two children of their own, Alex and Skye.

Despite living with chronic pain from a lifetime of misadventure, Mark rarely complained, always more concerned about others worrying for him than about his own discomfort. He was remarkably handy, an excellent driver with an unfailing sense of direction, and possessed a resilient spirit that carried him through life's challenges. He loved simple things, and would speak fondly of memories fishing or driving, particularly with his late and best of friends Mitchell Wilson.

Mark was born to Gene and Alice (neé Aldrich) Richardson, a prominent local attorney and an English teacher. Mark was raised by his mother and stepfather, David Hinkson, and grew into a man of kind and gentle character, showing special tenderness toward children and animals. He loved dogs and was embarrassed by his open affection for them. In his youth, he was sociable with a wide circle of friends. Though he became more reserved in later years, his warmth and decency never diminished.

Mark took immense pride in his work, a value he successfully instilled in his children. The final years of his life were spent working cheerfully in service to his community, helping countless people through his reliable delivery of essential medications during the challenging times of the early 2020s.

He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; his daughter, Skye; his son, Alex; his daughter-in-law, Joy; his sister, Laura Smithson, his nephews Scott and Steven Smithson; and his stepfather, David,  Beyond these immediate family members, Mark was cherished by many others whose lives he touched with his quiet generosity and steadfast presence.

Those who knew him will remember a decent and hardworking man who helped more people than he wronged. He lived according to his will and nature and died blamelessly on a beautiful day, just as the sun set. He leaves an absence that cannot be filled.
