Obituary

Michael "Mike" David Guest, 74, was born on December 11, 1945 to a fighter pilot and a beautiful mother with too many talents to list.  He departed this life on July 5, 2020. His parents raised three children in a home on Mills Park Road in Bryant, Arkansas.  They owned the Bryant Furniture Company and The Wicker Trunk dress shop.

Mike was preceded in death by both parents, Travis "T.A." Guest and Helen "Nanny" Trickett Guest.  He was also preceded in death by his twin brother Patrick Guest.

He is survived by one sister, Rebecca Guest of Little Rock, Arkansas.  Mike is also survived by two children:  son, Jon David Guest (Alisha); daughter, Crystal Guest McKenzie (Scott Hickman); three grandchildren, Ryan McKenzie, Austyn McKenzie and Jake Hickman.

Mike was a Methodist.   He became Bryant's first Fire Chief before being drafted into the Army.  He was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division.  He served with the 1st Brigade in the 327 Infantry Regiment immortalized by taking back Bastogne from the Nazis at the end of World War II.  He served in Vietnam during the turbulent years of 1968-1969.  His battalion operated in the battle-hardened A Sau Valley near Laos.  It was steep and mountainous; hot in the day and cold at night.  They were continually under hostile fire from the North Vietnamese Army who were highly trained and well equipped.  Mike fought the battle for Hamburger Hill.

His valor, courage, and positive attitude earned him many honors, both individual and unit: Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star with combat "V" Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Galentry Medal from the Republic of South Vietnam.

Mike really enjoyed his children, grandchildren and his many pets.  He will be greatly missed.

A Memorial will be announced at a later time.  Memorials in his honor may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project and The Saline County Humane Society.   Cremation services are under the direction of Cremation Services of Arkansas (501)313-5431
