Obituary

Roland Joe Betancourt was born Jose Rolando Betancourt Salazar Martinez on July 20, 1939 in Atiquizaya, El Salvador. He passed from this life on December 31, 2020 at the age of 81.

Roland's childhood was spent in Atiquizaya, El Salvador. He lived there until his early 20's when he moved to the United States to pursue a college education. He lived on the east coast for most of his adult life living in Arlington & Alexandria, Virginia and Brandywine, Maryland before moving to Greenbrier, Arkansas in 2007.

A devout Catholic, he was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Roland will always be remembered for his love of God, the democratic party, his dogs, family and mayonnaise.

Roland's hobbies included storytelling, digging trenches, finding riches, people watching, perfecting the grandpa shuffle, loving his dogs and laughing. He loved to hear his voice and when he couldn't find any words to say he was best known for his musical substitute "Lalalalala yayaya coo coo coo coo".

He was a lover of all things beautiful, finding art everywhere and in everything. He had an appreciation for swordsmanship and was always able to wield at a moments notice. Roland had a complex palate and was a true lover of all things edible. He truly enjoyed life through eating anything and everything.

Roland is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy (Cleveland) Betancourt. They were married for 42 loving years before her passing in June of 2010.

He is survived by his 6 beloved children, Lisa Kennedy, Vaughn Betancourt, Tonya Shomette, Vincent Betancourt, Marie Betancourt and Katrina Betancourt; 16 grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; Sheba, his German Shepherd.

Graveside service will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, January 9 th , 2021 at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Vici Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to St. Joseph Catholic Church , 1115 College Ave, Conway, AR 72032.  Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Cremation Services of Arkansas (501)313-5431.
