Obituary

Suzanne Cookston passed away on August 28th at the age of 54, at Baptist Health Hospital in Fort Smith, AR. On that day we lost a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a Granny, an aunt, a cousin, a niece and a friend.

Suzanne was born May 19, 1967, in San Antonio to Joe Max and Stellagene (Teague) Shelton. She moved to Sherman, TX where she was raised and later moved to Big Cedar, OK

Suzanne was preceded in death by her father, Joe Max Shelton, Her grandparents, Max Y. and Edith (Stout) Shelton, and C.E. "Gene" and Stella (Hargis) Teague, along with her great grandparents C.C. "Clifton" and Jo (Lisenbe) Teague.

Suzanne met the love of her life, "Jimmy" James Robert Cookston Jr., years before then married. Their paths crossed several times until they finally married, and they have been soulmates ever since.

Suzanne is survived by her husband of 24 years; her son James "Jimmy" Lynn Richardson II and granddaughters, Kynslee and Karson Jo Richardson all from Arizona; her son Trey Cookston from Smithville, OK; her son Jessie Cookston from Big Cedar, OK; and her daughter Beranda Wheeler and husband C.J. and granddaughters, Promise and Charlie Wheeler, all from Whitesboro, TX. Suzanne is also survived by her mother, Stellagene (Teague) Shelton from Sherman, TX; sister, Joahanna and her husband Cris Bohannon from Smithville, OK; sister, Janetta and her husband Garrett Patton from Sherman/Denison, Texas area; along with mother-in-law, Shirley Thompson from Sherman, TX. Suzanne is survived by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other in-laws and out-laws that she considered to be family and close friends.

She graduated from Sherman High School in 1985. She attended Grayson County Community College in Denison, where she became a Licensed Vocation Nurse in 1995, and worked as a LVN for 26 years. She worked in the Texoma area, and her last location was in Gunter, TX. The residents she helped care for were extended family. The nursing home and long-term care facilities were her calling. She was very passionate about her work, and when her health was starting to deteriorate and no longer able to work, it was hard on her to have to retire. Soon afterwards is when Suzanne, Jimmy and the two younger boys bought some land and moved to Big Cedar, OK. In her own words, "whatever is going on is God's plan now. I'm not giving up on life. I'm living it every day to best of my ability with my family now".

People like Suzanne are the backbone of this country. Her household was built on who could get the best laugh. She couldn't give a damn about most material things. She was a simpleton, and she was happy with that. Suzanne was all about making people laugh. She just had this quirky, witty sense of humor. She was a fierce and strong woman, and a beautiful badass!! She could find the positives in the most extreme negatives. She could make you laugh, and she could make you cry, while still having unconditional love and compassion for you. She loved everyone she met, and she had no shame letting you know that she loved you. Having her by your side, you were protected by a great warrior.

If she could give words of advice, they would be enjoy life, laugh, laugh a lot, let the petty arguments go, laugh again, enjoy life, Jesus loves you and so do I, laugh some more and don't stop living and don't stop laughing, even it's laughing at yourself.

In honor of Suzanne, there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. The family wants to extend our warmest and sincere appreciation for all of your thoughts and prayers.  Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Cremation Services of Arkansas (501)3135431.
