Obituary

Thomas Wallace (Wally), McKenzie, 67, passed away in Little Rock on Monday, October 8, 2018. He was born on January 12, 1951 in Homer, Louisiana to the late Benjamin Thomas McKenzie and Irene St John McKenzie. Wally was a graduate of Homer High School (Class of 1969) and went on to earn a master's degree from Louisiana State University. Wally served the public during his tenures with the New Orleans Health Department, Eureka Springs Police Department, and Carroll County Sheriff's Department, but it was his work as a Master Carpenter that he truly enjoyed. He loved woodworking and often created pieces of furniture for friends and family.

Wally grew up on the family farm, surrounded by dogs, pigs, and cows, and always had fond memories of spending time in the pecan orchard. His love for animals continued throughout his life, and playing an active role in the Bureau of Land Management's wild horse and burrow adoptions was a pastime for Wally. He also loved spending time on the trails with his horse, Krystal. Wally had a passion for spending time outdoors, especially with those he loved, and he passed that along to his sons and grandson.

Wally was a devoted father and grandfather, always playing an active role in his sons' lives, whether it was coaching baseball, camping, or dropping off surprise watermelons. He found joy in helping others and was always willing to lend a helping hand in the time of need, even if that meant driving through snow and ice to bring someone wood for their fire. Wally's concern for the wellbeing of others led to many lifelong friendships.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret McKenzie; son, Sean McKenzie; son, Colin McKenzie and wife, Maradyth; son, Ryan McKenzie and wife Brittny; son, Patrick McKenzie; three grandchildren; sister Nina Gay Mills and husband, Danny Joe; and other family and friends. A memorial service celebrating Wally's life will be held at the Highway Church of Christ in Benton on Sunday, October 21, from 1:30 to 3:30 PM. All are welcome to attend.
