Obituary

Warren Odell Parks, age 55, completed his earthly journey on October 9, 2022 after succumbing to Early Onset Alzheimer's which he endured for four years. Warren died peacefully in his home surrounded by family. He was born on January 5, 1967 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jan Williams Parks and six children: Bailey Elizabeth Parks, Bailey Marie Parks, Addison Faith Hawkins, Luke Victor Parks, Colton Harvey Parks and Warren Gunner McGuire Parks, who all reside in Benton, Arkansas. In addition, four bonus children; Ashton and Emily Carlson, Whitney Gossett and William Earl Owens. He also leaves behind his sister Christie (Jimmy) Kelly, who resides in Sherwood, Arkansas.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Warren Parks and Patricia Ann (Roberts) Parks.

Warren grew up in Pine Bluff and graduated from White Hall High School in 1985. He was drawn to the medical field and eventually found employment at Baptist Health Medical Center Little Rock in the pharmacy aiding in the implementation and management of the Pyxis System for medication dispensing. Warren's next profession lasted 16 years at CARTI as a chemotherapy compounder. He considered his work there a ministry as his own mother died from cancer. His attention to detail was often unnerving to his coworkers as he was known for accuracy that could not be rushed. Warren had a mathematical mind which was used when he purchased lottery tickets with his nurse friends and quickly computed the winnings after taxes and distribution first to his favorite charities. Of note they never hit the jackpot.

Warren had an intense love for music that stretched across many genres. He often made Jan listen to a song on repeat until she too confessed her love for his selection. Warren's favorite past time was playing drums. It can be traced back to the first stage performance impersonating KISS at a school talent show. He fine- tuned this skill as a member of school band at his alma mater. Warren had an ear for music and was self taught on guitar and piano. Song writing was also a hobby of his. He aspired to be a rock star and lived that out by always being a member of a band playing original creations as well as cover tunes. His most recent tenure was as the drummer with Raising Grey. A bond existed between Warren and Glenn, Blaine and Chris, the members of the band, who he considered brothers. He often took advantage of a hot microphone while on stage with his Elvis impersonation, "Thank you. Thank you very much".

When Jan introduced the idea of opening as a foster home in 2012 he agreed to perhaps to appease his bride. But he quickly assumed the role of foster dad to over two dozen children, mostly teenagers. It's possible his goal was to create more drummers and groupies for his band. Warren and Jan were recognized as Arkansas Foster Parents of the year in 2018 for Area 3. Even the governor was not spared his Elvis impersonation.

Once Warren was no longer able to work, Jan found him tasks to complete as any good wife would do. Every Wednesday Warren took donations to the Shack, a local nonprofit assisting the homeless, and occasionally he stayed long enough for a sandwich and conversation. Warren would calm his restlessness by walking and often logged 7 miles a day in the neighborhood. He is known by all for giving a thumbs up, peace sign and the elusive hand signal from the TV show Mork and Mindy. A select few received a salute. Unbeknownst to Jan the neighbors were the original caregivers in his Alzheimer's journey ensuring he was well hydrated and often invited him into the garage or front porch for water and a conversation. When asked "How are you doing?" Warren responded with "Not to good, I have Alzheimer's." Warren often shared he was not fearful of the disease or the outcome. We are certain he made sound check Sunday in time to worship with our Savior.

Warren Parks will be remembered as a loving husband, attentive father, dear friend, first-class drummer, " class clown" and all around good guy. The family would like to express their gratitude to special volunteers Bev and David of Helping Hands a ministry of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church and Becky and the staff of Pleasant Hill Adult Daycare. Warren was loved and cared for his last week of time here by Hospice Home Care and their exemplary staff. to include Ashley and "Becky with the good hair". No one is spared our family humor.
